Daniel-André Tande (born January 24, 1994 in Narvik ) is a Norwegian ski jumper . He is ski flying world champion and Olympic champion.

Career

Daniel-André Tande attended Drammen Videregående Skole, a secondary school in Drammen .

In the FIS Cup he jumped for the first time on December 18, 2009 on the Tveitanbakken in Notodden , in the Continental Cup on February 17, 2012 on the Midstudtbakken in Oslo . At the Norwegian team championship in ski jumping in 2012, he jumped for the team from the Buskerud province and received the bronze medal. At the Norwegian Summer Ski Jumping Championships 2013 on September 8th in Oslo, he finished fourth on the normal hill. His first podium place in the Continental Cup was on December 28, 2013 in the second competition on the Gross-Titlis-Schanze in Engelberg with second place behind Manuel Poppinger . In his first World Cup appearance, he qualified on January 10, 2014 in ski flying on the Kulm in Tauplitz , but did not make it to the second round. The next day he received his first World Cup points with his 15th place. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2014 in Val di Fiemme , he won the bronze medal with the Norwegian team. He was a member of the Norwegian team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , but was not used in the three competitions.

On February 28, 2015 on the Hochfirstschanze in Titisee-Neustadt , Tande won a Continental Cup competition for the first time. On June 21, 2015 he won the summer jumping weekend on Midtstubakken with a new summer hill record (109.5 m) ahead of Anders Fannemel and Phillip Sjøen . Tande celebrated his first victory in the World Cup on November 22, 2015 in Klingenthal . On January 17, 2016 he won the team competition at the Ski Flying World Championships on Kulm together with Anders Fannemel, Johann André Forfang and Kenneth Gangnes . On February 22nd, 2016 he jumped a new hill record in team jumping at the World Cup on the Puijo hill in Kuopio with 136.0 meters; the old one resulted from the year 1998 by Masahiko Harada .

As part of the Four Hills Tournament 2016/17 he won the jumping competitions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck . Before the last competition he was in the lead in the overall standings, but then fell back to third place, because in the second round of jumping in Bischofshofen a clip on the binding of the right ski came off, he lost control of the jump and only with Effort could prevent a fall. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he finished 15th in the individual on the normal hill and fifth in the mixed team competition. On the large hill, he was tenth in the individual competition and in team jumping together with Anders Fannemel, Johann André Forfang and Andreas Stjernen, he won the silver medal in second behind world champion Poland. In the overall World Cup of the 2016/17 season , he finished third with 1201 points and thus achieved his best career result.

At the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf , Tande became double world champion. He first won the individual competition, which was canceled after three of four rounds. In qualifying for this competition, which he also won, he also improved the hill record of the Heini-Klopfer ski-flying hill to 238.5 meters. In the team competition he successfully defended the world championship title from 2016 together with Robert Johansson , Andreas Stjernen and Johann André Forfang. On February 3, 2018, he won the World Cup jumping in Willingen and thus the fourth individual World Cup victory in his career. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he finished sixth in the individual competition on the normal hill and in fourth, he just missed a medal in the individual competition on the large hill . In the team competition on the large hill , he won the gold medal together with Andreas Stjernen, Johann André Forfang and Robert Johansson. On March 11, 2018, Tande won another individual World Cup competition in Oslo as part of Raw Air 2018 . In the overall World Cup of the 2017/18 season, he repeated his placement from the previous season in third place.

In May 2018, Tande suffered from the rare Stevens-Johnson syndrome , which is why he was hospitalized for a week and a half. Due to his weight loss due to illness, he then had to stop exercising.
