Robert Høneren Johansson (born March 23, 1990 in Lillehammer ) is a Norwegian ski jumper . His greatest sporting successes to date are the gold medals with the Norwegian team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and at the 2018 Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf .

Career

Johansson made his international debut on September 2, 2006 at an FIS Cup in Örnsköldsvik and finished in 19th place. After a total of four more FIS Cup competitions, he made his debut in the Continental Cup on March 1, 2008 in Whistler and took 23rd place. In the second competition, Johansson achieved his best result to date in the Continental Cup with a twelfth place . However, only 34 jumpers took part in both competitions. A few days later, he also competed in the Continental Cup in Trondheim , but was disqualified.

In the summer of 2008 Johansson missed the 2nd round in all competitions where he started. At the Norwegian Ski Jumping Championships in 2008 he won the bronze medal with Eirik Ulimoen , Erik Leine Wangen and Kenneth Gangnes in the team. In winter he competed in the Continental Cup more often and made it into the second round several times. His best result was a 16th place in Trondheim. At the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso , Johansson finished 29th in the individual and narrowly missed a medal in fourth in the team with Kenneth Gangnes, Andre Fredheim and Eirik Kjelstrup . At ski flying in Vikersund , he competed in a World Cup qualification for the first time, but clearly missed it as 45th.

In the 2009/10 season Johansson started only in a few international competitions (five Continental Cups, four FIS Cups) but did not achieve any success. At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten , he finished 29th in the individual and 11th in the team. At the Norwegian Championships Johansson won bronze with Sigmund Hagehaugen , Kenneth Gangnes and Fredrik Bjerkeengen in the team. The 2010/11 season was no better for him than the 2009/10 season. In the Continental Cup, Johansson was only used in the national group in Lillehammer and Oslo in the summer and was only able to reach the 2nd round in four competitions in Lillehammer as 21st. In winter he only started at the FIS Cup on the Zaō hill in Yamagata internationally and finished tenth and 17th with only 24 jumpers. At the Norwegian Team Championships he won bronze in a team with Sigmund Hagehaugen, Fredrik Bjerkeengen and Kenneth Gangnes.

In the squad allocation for the 2011/12 season , Johansson was appointed to the Continental Cup team despite these two poor years. He started the season with a 13th place at the Continental Cup in Kranj . At the season finale on March 11, 2012 in Kuopio , Finland , he won his first Continental Cup. Two weeks later he crowned the season with victory in the team competition at the Norwegian Championships in Voss .

After another season (2012/13) in the Continental Cup , he was also used for the first time in the World Cup in the 2013/14 season . He made his debut on November 29, 2013 in Kuusamo , finished in 13th place and got his first World Cup points straight away. At other starts in the World Cup he was able to jump into the points twice in Sapporo and at the end of the season ended up in 61st place in the overall World Cup with 43 points. Until February 2014 he was a permanent member of the World Cup team before he started again in the COC . In the 2014/15 season he competed in the Continental Cup more often and only made four World Cup starts, in which he scored points with a 26th place. In the 2015/16 season he only jumped in ski flying in Vikersund in the World Cup and achieved points in two out of three starts.

On July 16, 2016, Johansson made his debut in Courchevel in the Summer Grand Prix . Both in his debut as 23rd and in Wisła as 30th he got Grand Prix points. From the World Cup station in Klingenthal at the beginning of December 2016, Johansson was once again a permanent member of the Norwegian World Cup team. He was used for the first time in a team competition in the World Cup on December 3 in Klingenthal and took fourth place. During the 2016/17 season he established himself in the World Cup. He jumped on the podium for the first time when jumping on January 4, 2017 in Innsbruck as part of the Four Hills Tournament 2016/17 . In the competition, which was canceled after the first round, he finished second behind his compatriot Daniel-André Tande . In February 2017 he took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships for the first time in Lahti . He was only used in the individual competition on the normal hill, in which he took 16th place. On March 18, 2017, he briefly set a new ski flying world record of 252.0 meters at the team competition in Vikersund as part of Raw Air 2017 , which Stefan Kraft beat by 1.5 meters in the same competition . The team competition was won by the Norwegians and Johansson achieved his first World Cup victory with it.

At the Ski Flying World Championships 2018 in Oberstdorf , he finished ninth in the individual. In the team competition, he won the gold medal together with Andreas Stjernen , Johann André Forfang and Daniel-André Tande. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , South Korea , he took third place in both the individual competition on the normal hill and on the large hill , winning bronze medals in each case. In the team competition on the large hill , he and Daniel-André Tande, Andreas Stjernen and Johann André Forfang won the gold medal in front of the teams from Germany and Poland. With three medals in three competitions, he was one of the most successful ski jumpers at the Winter Games. Exactly one year after his world record flight or his first World Cup victory with the team, he achieved his first World Cup victory in an individual competition on March 18, 2018 at the same place, in Vikersund, as part of Raw Air 2018 . In the overall Raw Air ranking, he finished second behind Kamil Stoch . At the end of the 2017/18 season , he finished fifth in the overall World Cup with 840 points and thus achieved his first top ten placement in the overall standings.

At the 2019 World Ski Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , Austria , he won the bronze medal in the final mixed team competition together with Anna Odine Strøm , Maren Lundby and Andreas Stjernen . Before that, he had reached eighth place on the large hill and 16th place on the normal hill in the individual competitions and was fifth in the men's team competition with the Norwegian team. At the start of Raw Air 2019 , he won both the prologue and the team competition from Holmenkollbakken , together with Johann André Forfang, Robin Pedersen and Marius Lindvik . One day later, he won the individual jumping ahead of Stefan Kraft and Peter Prevc and thus secured his second World Cup victory. He finished the 2018/19 season in sixth place with 974 points.

Trivia

Due to his characteristic twisted beard , which attracted a lot of media interest especially at the 2018 Olympic Games, Johansson was nicknamed "Flying Mustache" (in German: flying mustache ).
