1766: Madrid hat riot
  • 1766 : 13 days after the ban on wide-brimmed hats and long coats by Minister Leopoldo de Gregorio , Marquis de Esquilache, the Madrid hat revolt against the Spanish King Charles III breaks out . out. The uprising, in which around 50,000 people took part, could not be brought under control by the troops either, the king had to flee and dismiss Esquilache.

  • 1911 : The Australian passenger steamer Yongala goes down in a cyclone off Townsville . All 122 people on board are killed in one of Australia's largest shipping disasters.

Ixtoc I accident
  • 1980 : The borehole of the oil platform that exploded on June 3, 1979 at the Ixtoc I exploration well of the Mexican oil company PEMEX can be closed. By then, around 100,000 to 300,000 barrels of crude oil had spilled into the sea every day, causing one of the greatest oil spills .
  • 1994 : When Aeroflot flight 593 from Moscow to Hong Kong crashed , all 75 people on board were killed. The recordings of the voice recorder show that the pilot's 15-year-old son was behind the wheel in the crash.
