Hossein Askari (born March 23, 1975 in Khomein ) is a former Iranian cyclist .

Athletic career

Hossein Askari has been one of the most successful Iranian cyclists since the mid-2000s. He has won several stage races in Asia, including the Tour d'Indonesia in 2005 , the Azerbaïjan Tour in 2007 and 2008 , the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey in 2010 and the Tour de Brunei in 2012 . In 2007 and 2008 he won the UCI Asia Tour and was three times Iranian champion in the individual time trial (as of March 2014). In addition, he won seven medals at Asian cycling championships in individual and team time trials up to 2015 .

Three times - in 2000 , 2004 and 2008 - began Askari at the Olympic Games, in the road race and the individual pursuit on the track . His best Olympic placement in 2004 was a 15th place in the pursuit.

In 2013, Askari tested positive for methylhexanamine at the Tour de Singkarak and was banned for one year until June 2014. In 2015 he became two-time Asian champion in road races and in the individual time trial. In May of the same year he ended his cycling career.
