Tour of Qinghai Lake
The Tour of Qinghai Lake ( Chinese 环青海湖 国际 公路 自行车 赛 , Pinyin Huán Qīnghǎihú Guójì Gōnglù Zìxíngchē Sài ) is a Chinese bicycle race .
The stage race leads, mostly over nine days, through the Chinese province of Qinghai . The fixed point is the Qinghai Lake , which is visited again and again. The first edition took place in 2002. Since the UCI Asia Tour was introduced in 2005, the tour has been part of this racing series and is classified in the highest category 2nd HC . The top drivers in Asia mostly fight for victory with young talents from Europe. The Tour of Qinghai Lake is known for its particularly high course. Most of the stages lead to an altitude of over 2000 m . The fifth stage in 2011 from Xihaizhen to Mole (Qilian) led to 3869 m , the lowest point being reached on the last stage at 1520 m .
So far, no cyclist has won the tour twice. Nor could a driver from a German-speaking country decide the tour for themselves.
