Khomein ( Persian خمین) is a city in central Iran in the Markazi province and has just over 69,000 inhabitants (as of 2012 extrapolation), according to a census from 1978 25,000 inhabitants, in the 1940s the population was 7,038.
The place name is said to have originated as early as the 7th century. The translation of the two jugs alludes to the conquest of Persia, when the Muslim conqueror was presented with two huge jugs, one with juice, the other with alcohol made from grain.
Khomein is the city of birth of Ruhollah Musawi, called Ruhollah Khomeini , the leader of the Islamic Revolution and Iran's top legal scholar .
