Martin Waldemar Gillo (born March 23, 1945 in Leipzig ) is a German-American social psychologist, business manager and politician ( CDU ). From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the Saxon State Parliament and from 2009 to 2014 the Saxon Commissioner for Foreigners. From May 2002 to November 2004 he was Saxon State Minister for Economics and Labor .

Life

Gillo grew up in Delmenhorst from 1946 , where he graduated from high school in 1965. After his military service, he studied psychology at the University of Hamburg and the University of Kansas until 1972 , and he also completed a Fulbright degree in social psychology . Gillo graduated as a Master of Arts in 1970 and as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 1973 .

From 1972 to 1974 he was project manager for organizational research (Research Associate / Research Assistant Professor) at the University of Washington in Seattle . From 1974 to 1980 he was a management consultant at Hay Associates / Hay Unternehmensberatung in Frankfurt am Main and San Francisco and then until 1996 at AMD in Sunnyvale ( California ), Geneva and Dresden . From 1996 to 2002 he was HR manager at AMD Saxony Manufacturing GmbH in Dresden.

On April 16, 2010, Gillo was appointed visiting professor for social and organizational psychology at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg .

Gillo is married with three children and is a German and a US citizen.

politics

From May 2, 2002 to November 11, 2004, Gillo was Saxon State Minister for Economics and Labor in Georg Milbradt's first cabinet ( Milbradt I cabinet ). Gillo has been a member of the CDU since 2003.

In the state elections in 2004, Martin Gillo moved into the state parliament through a direct mandate in the Freiberg 2 constituency for the Saxon CDU, which he defended in the 2009 election. Since February 2006, Gillo has been Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Science and Higher Education, Culture and the Media. In addition, he was a member of the committee for rules of procedure and immunity matters and of the inquiry commission "Demographic development and its effects on the areas of life of the people in the Free State of Saxony and their consequences for the political fields of action" of the Saxon state parliament.

On November 19, 2009, Gillo was nominated by the Saxon CDU parliamentary group as a commissioner for foreigners and was elected to this office by the state parliament on December 9, 2009. In the state elections on August 31, 2014 Gillo decided not to run again and consequently left the state parliament.
