Georg Milbradt ( CDU ), Saxon Prime Minister from 2002 to 2008

The Milbradt I cabinet formed the Saxon state government from 2002 to 2004 . After the Saxon Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf, who had been in office since 1990, announced his resignation on April 17, 2002, the Saxon state parliament elected the chairman of the CDU Saxony and former finance minister Georg Milbradt as his successor on April 18, 2002. Him accounted for 72 votes, four votes less than the CDU - parliamentary group of MPs counted.

On May 2, 2002, Milbradt appointed the members of his state government. Compared to the previous cabinet, the new government was reduced by two ministerial posts: No separate minister of state was appointed for the “Federal and European Affairs” division, which was still part of the Saxon State Chancellery , and the “ Equal Opportunities ” division, which was previously responsible for a minister of state in the State Chancellery, was appointed incorporated into the Ministry of Social Affairs .

With the meeting of the 4th Landtag on October 19, 2004, the term of office of the state government ended in accordance with Article 68, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution of the Free State of Saxony . Until the new Milbradt II cabinet , also formed by Georg Milbradt, took office on November 11, 2004, the members of the government held their offices in a managerial capacity.
