Cabinet Biedenkopf III

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Biedenkopf III cabinet held office from 1999 to 2002 as the third Saxon state government . The election for the 3rd Saxon state parliament on September 19, 1999 allowed the 1990 ruling CDU of Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf to continue their one-party government . A slight loss of 1.2 percentage points compared to the 1994 election gave the ruling party 56.9 percent of the second vote and 76 of the 120 seats in the state parliament .

In the constituent session of the state parliament on October 13, 1999, the deputies re-elected the incumbent Kurt Biedenkopf as prime minister. He had 75 votes in favor, 40 against and four abstentions . In the second session on October 27, 1999, the eleven ministers of state appointed by the head of government were sworn in before the state parliament.

After almost twelve years in office, Prime Minister Biedenkopf announced his resignation on April 17, 2002. This also ended the term of office of the Cabinet in accordance with Article 68, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution of the Free State of Saxony . The following day, Biedenkopf was replaced by the CDU state chairman and former finance minister Georg Milbradt . Until the state government formed by Milbradt took office on May 2, 2002, the members of the government remained in office.
