The state election in Saxony in 1999 was the third election to the Saxon state parliament and took place on September 19, 1999.

Result

According to the official final result, the CDU under Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf clearly defended its absolute majority and achieved 56.9 percent of the votes. She won all 60 direct mandates again. The PDS became the second strongest party in Saxony for the first time with more than five percentage points of votes and twice as strong as the SPD , which achieved its worst result up to that point and only achieved 10.7 percent with a strong loss of votes. The Greens again failed to enter the state parliament and also lost votes, but remained the strongest party not represented in the state parliament. The Pro Deutsche Mitte party - Pro D-Mark initiative , which started for the first time, achieved a result of 2.1 percent from the start, leaving the REP, NPD and FDP behind.

As a result of the election, the CDU's sole government was continued in the Biedenkopf III cabinet .

The turnout was 61.1%, an increase of 2.7 percentage points compared to 1994.
