Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Sachsen is one of the regional associations of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party . With over 2,000 members, the regional association is one of the medium-sized members of the green party in Germany .

history

The regional association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Saxony was founded on September 27, 1991 in Zwickau at the joint general assembly of 137 members from Democracy Now , New Forum , Independent Women's Association and the Greens. The Saxon Green State Association, which emerged from the Green Party in the GDR in 1990 , did not join the West German Greens on December 3, 1990, the day after the federal election, like the other East German Green State associations, but postponed this decision.

The forerunners of the alliance green state association were the four groups that already ran for the first Saxon state election in 1990 under the umbrella of the list connection "New Forum - Alliance - Greens (FORUM)" and made it into the state parliament with 5.6%. Since then, ten members of the state parliament have represented green positions in the state parliament, including the better-known members of the green state association Klaus Gaber , Martin Böttger , Karl-Heinz Gerstenberg and the long-time parliamentary group leader Antje Hermenau . The Saxon state association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen was founded a year and a half before the merger of Bündnis 90 and Die Grünen at the federal level. Other well-known members who were active in the Saxon regional association in the 1990s are Gunda Röstel and Werner Schulz .

Already at that time, the Saxon State Association of Alliance 90 / The Greens appeared at parliamentary level with thematic focus on climate change , lignite exit , genetic engineering , promoting regional economic cycles, waste and wastewater concepts, planning and transport policies, rock mining in the Saxon regions, the uranium mining of Bismut , the coming to terms with the GDR past, the care of asylum seekers and citizen participation .

In the state elections in 1994, the party failed to make it into the state parliament with 4.1% of the second vote. While only three parties were represented in the Saxon state parliament with the CDU, SPD and PDS until 2004 , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen continued to be anchored at the local level with local elected officials, and the party also provided mayors in individual communities.

It was not until 2004 that the alliance green state party succeeded in re-entering the state parliament with 5.1% of the second vote. The main topics of the election campaign were the fight against right - wing extremism , education and family policy , equality for women and the fight against corruption . The then top candidate Antje Hermenau , who was still a member of the Bundestag before entering the state parliament, became parliamentary group leader of the six-member state parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. The long-time state chairman and now elected member of the state parliament, Karl-Heinz Gerstenberg , became the parliamentary manager of the state parliamentary group.

In 2009, with 6.4% of the second vote, it once again entered the state parliament. In addition to the top candidate Antje Hermenau , who was confirmed as parliamentary group leader, eight other MPs moved into the state parliament for the party. The office of parliamentary manager was again held by Karl-Heinz Gerstenberg . Under the motto "Ecological - Modern - Cosmopolitan", the parliamentary group took on an opposition role in the state parliament.

In 2014 the party entered the Saxon state election campaign for the first time with a dual leadership made up of Antje Hermenau and Volkmar Zschocke . The move succeeded with 5.7% of the second votes for a total of eight members. The parliamentary group chairmanship was taken over by Zschocke, since Hermenau was no longer running for this office. Valentin Lippmann was elected parliamentary managing director . Due to the mathematical possibility of a coalition with the CDU , exploratory negotiations with the CDU followed for the first time in the history of the state party, but these failed. In this context, Hermenau declared that she would not accept her mandate in the state parliament. With Franziska Schubert you are moving up another parliamentary newcomer. Of the eight Green MPs, only Eva Jähnigen belonged to the old parliament.

The strongholds of the state party are the major cities of Dresden , Leipzig , Chemnitz , parts of the Meißen district and the city of Freiberg .

The Saxon Greens were able to distinguish themselves in the 2000s on the one hand through high- profile individual campaigns such as against the construction of the Waldschlößchenbrücke in Dresden and on the other hand through constant and reliable parliamentary work, among other things in the areas of education, university and budget policy . Despite the function as an opposition party in the state parliament, an alliance green motion for municipal commemoration days on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution was accepted by the state government. The green regional association also appeared in part through concepts in the field of transport policy; For example, the parliamentary group developed the Saxony-wide rail concept “SACHSENTAKT 21” for an integral cycle timetable and called for Chemnitz to be reconnected to the long-distance rail network.

The fact that the parliamentary group was completely reorganized from 2014 onwards was associated with a broadening of the range of topics. In addition to the topics of ecology and practical nature conservation, environmental and climate protection, transport policy and gender equality policy, the structural problems of large cities and rural areas were increasingly discussed in public. The parliamentary group under its new parliamentary group chairman Wolfram Günther developed a recognizable profile in housing policy and against excessive rent increases in the three major cities of Saxony. At the same time, the green parliamentary group addressed the structural dismantling of schools, police, courts and administration in rural Saxony and thus made a name for itself in domestic and educational policy. Among other things, the Greens called for the re-establishment of police stations in every city with more than 10,000 inhabitants and met with positive feedback in many places at the municipal level.

At the federal level, the party sends Monika Lazar and Stephan Kühn, two Saxon MPs, to the German Bundestag.

With Katja Meier and Wolfram Günther , the state association again elected two top candidates for the state elections in Saxony in 2019 .

structure

organization

The regional association is organized in 13 district associations, which are referred to as "city associations" in the major cities of Dresden , Leipzig and Chemnitz . Below the district association level there are sometimes regional groups or associations, more rarely local associations. The state board is at the head of the state association. The state board is usually re-elected every two years at a state assembly.

In 1992 the Green Alternative Youth Alliance (GAJB) Saxony was established in Leipzig , in the mid-1990s it was called the Green Youth Alliance (GJB) and later became part of the Federal Association of Green Youth .

The party operates the YouTube channel GRÜNE Sachsen .

Members

After the establishment of the regional association, the number of members grew to around 1,100 members by the end of the 1990s. In the following years, the number of members of the regional association declined and fell to around 850 members by around 2002. At this point the trend was reversed and the number of members rose steadily and at the end of January 2009 reached the level of 995 Saxon members. The year 2009 brought the Saxon Greens a significant increase in membership, in January 2010 the regional association had 1,100 members again and thus achieved its best value to date. The number of members now amounts to almost 1,400.

speaker

From 1991 to 1994 Gunda Röstel and Heiko Weigel were the first state chairmen of the Saxon alliance greens. While Karl-Heinz Gerstenberg remained male state chairman from 1994 to 2005, the state spokespersons changed frequently. So were Gerda Viecenz , Kornelia Müller and Anne Kathrin Olbrich each country at least two years spokeswoman, whereas it between 2003 and 2005 were no female regional chairman. After the party's entry into the state parliament in 2004, Eva Jähnigen and Claus Krüger were elected state chairmen in the following year . Between 2007 and 2009 Rudolf Haas was the male spokesman for the state party. In January 2010, Volkmar Zschocke was elected as the party's new state spokesman. The office of the state spokeswoman remained vacant due to the lack of an applicant. On November 6, 2010, Claudia Maicher was elected as state spokesperson. Both were re-elected as state board spokespersons on March 3, 2012. On 25/26. November 2016, Jürgen Kasek and Christin Melcher were elected a new dual leadership. In March 2018, Kasek was replaced by Norman Volger .
