Christin Melcher (born April 26, 1983 in Wolgast ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ), from 2016 to 2020 state board spokeswoman for the Saxon state association of her party and since 2019 a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Professional background

Christin Melcher grew up on the island of Usedom and passed her Abitur at the Maxim-Gorki -Gymnasium in Heringsdorf . She then studied philosophy , new German literature and art history at the University of Greifswald , before moving to the University of Leipzig in 2003, where she began studying philosophy, logic and the theory of science , which she completed with a master's degree. After graduating, she was active in political education . She wrote the publications “Municipal Educational Landscapes”, “Municipalities as University Locations”, “Daycare Funding in Saxony” and “Growing Cities and Middle Centers ".

Volunteering

Since 2004 she has been involved in student and academic self-administration, initially as a member of the student council and the institute council, as a delegate to the conference of Saxon student bodies, later as a consultant for ecology and transport and as a spokesperson for the student council . As a co-founder of the UniSolar association, she implemented the first student-financed photovoltaic system on a university building. In Leipzig she is also active in the culture and district development at Pöge-Haus eV, as well as initiator and organizer of the bridge festival.

In the Leipzig district association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, Melcher was initially an assessor on the board from 2012 to 2014 and district association spokesperson from 2015 to 2016. In 2014 she also became a member of the state party council of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Saxony. At the state party conference on November 26, 2016, the delegates elected Melcher as the new state board spokeswoman with 89.4 percent of the votes. She was confirmed in this office on March 24, 2018 by the state assembly of her party with 72.48 percent.

Professional policy

Melcher ran for the state election in Saxony in 2019 on the seventh place in the list of the Greens and prevailed in the Leipzig 5 constituency as a constituency member with 29 percent of the direct votes. In the Landtag, Melcher is a member of the Committee on Schools and Education, the Petitions Committee and the 1st Committee of Inquiry ("Entanglement of the state government in the 'qualified illegal' reduction of the AfD state list"). She also acts as deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of ALLIANCE 90 / THE GREENS.
