Hugo Karl-Heinz Gerstenberg (born October 7, 1951 in Grimma ) is an information technology engineer and a Saxon politician ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ).

Life

In 1970 Gerstenberg passed the Abitur at the extended secondary school "Ernst Schneller" (today: St. Augustin High School ) in his hometown . He then began studying information technology at the Technical University of Dresden , which he completed in 1974 as a graduate engineer. From 1974 he completed a research degree and was awarded a Dr.-Ing. PhD. He then worked as a research assistant at the Center for Microelectronics Dresden until 1990 .

He has been married since 1977 and has three children, including Franziska Gerstenberg .

Political commitment

Gerstenberg began his political engagement in 1990. At that time he was elected to the spokesman's council of the civil rights movement Democracy Now . In 1991 he was one of the founders of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Saxony. In 1994 he was elected spokesman for his party's state board. In 2004 he stopped taking office and left this position to the architect Claus Krüger .

Gerstenberg was a member of the green parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament from 1990 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2014. In the 2004 state elections , he was the second top candidate of the Saxon Greens alongside the Bundestag member Antje Hermenau . The party received 5.1% of the votes cast. The parliamentary group elected him as its parliamentary manager . In the Saxon state parliament he was a member of the “Science and University, Culture and Media” committee and the “Rules of Procedure and Immunity Matters” committee.

In addition, he was a member of the Dresden City Council from 2004 to 2009 , where he represented the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group in the committees for culture and social affairs, for health and for housing. In December 2013 he moved back to the city council as a successor.

For the state elections in 2014 , he decided not to run again for a state parliament mandate.
