State governments

In 1990 Kurt Biedenkopf formed the first Saxon state government . He relied solely on the absolute majority of the CDU in the state parliament . This majority was confirmed in the 1994 and 1999 state elections. In 2002 Kurt Biedenkopf resigned after a number of internal party disputes and handed over the office to Georg Milbradt on April 18 . He remained Prime Minister even after the 2004 election , but the CDU lost an absolute majority in this election, so Milbradt was dependent on a coalition partner. The CDU entered into a coalition with the SPD . The NPD became almost as strong as the SPD in this election. Deputy Prime Minister was the SPD state chairman Thomas Jurk . On May 28, 2008, Stanislaw Tillich was elected as the new Prime Minister. After the state elections in 2009, Tillich formed a government with the FDP with Sven Morlok as his deputy. In the 2014 election, the FDP missed re-entry, which is why the CDU again formed a coalition with the SPD. After this election, the alternative for Germany made it into the state parliament for the first time, while the NPD narrowly missed re-entry.
