Marina Berti

Marina Berti (actually: Elena Maureen Bertolini , born September 29, 1924 in London , † October 29, 2002 in Rome ) was an Italian actress .

Life

The daughter of an Italian immigrant in England came to her father's homeland in the late 1930s; first to Florence , where she worked as a reciter for the radio and as a stage actress. She also worked for the Ente Italiano per le Audizioni Radiofoniche . After moving to Rome, Berti took part in nearly 100 films, including mainly monumental and historical films . The brown-haired, beautiful, photogenic, sometimes absent-minded and melancholy-looking actress made her acting debut in Piero Ballerini's La Fuggitiva in 1941 . In 1943 she made a lasting impression with Alberto Lattuada's Giacomo l'idealista . A long career followed, which lasted until her death, during which she managed to always get roles appropriate to her age. A jump to Hollywood failed, however; In international productions such as Ben Hur and Cleopatra , she was only granted minor roles. She played in all productions of her husband, the actor and director Claudio Gora , with whom she has three children, including the actors Andrea and Carlo . She had already appeared in a television production in 1958.

In 2002 Marina Berti died of cancer . Her last film role was that of the princess in Constantin Costa-Gavras ' film The Deputy .
