action
The grande dame Seniora Carolina Rambaldi, wealthy toy manufacturer, leaves her heirs with a considerable fortune. Her three children, all lazy and arrogant in her eyes, should only inherit the compulsory share, she decreed during her lifetime. The remaining amount goes to whoever fathered a child first. All three have so far led a rather self-centered life with no sense of family or even children. Marcello alone, the youngest of the group and a gigolo par excellence, sees no problem in this, as the women are at his feet. He chooses Marina, who is about to commit suicide and whom he met on the street on the day the will is opened, by preventing her from jumping into the river. At the sight of the castle that Marcello will inherit, she agrees to marry. After the wedding, Marina learns that her job is only to carry a child to term, after which the large fortune will be transferred to Marcello. So she is also interested in the success of the "pregnancy" project.
Marcello's siblings, the haughty Lucrezia and the gay Cesare, do everything in their power to torpedo the success and do not shy away from murder. Marina's first pregnancy ends as a miscarriage, as she knows from her previous two marriages. Her twin sister Angela advises her to let the embryo grow for the first three critical months in an artificial uterus under medical supervision and control. A Munich clinic would offer this procedure. As soon as Marina is pregnant again, she makes an appointment to have the seedling removed at the same clinic. Angela is supposed to hold the position during her week-long absence and take Marina's place in the Rambaldi house. Cesare and his lover (Ken) get wind of the exchange, also travel to Germany and smuggle a bomb into the plane that Marina takes to fly back to Italy. When the bomb explodes and Marina is killed in the process, Angela feels the pain and death of her sister through telepathic connection. From the beyond, Marina sends messages to her sister, who has since fallen in love with Marcello. Angela is supposed to bear her child and be happy with Marcello.
