Colorno is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 9,127 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Parma in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 14 kilometers north-northeast of Parma and less than 4 kilometers below the Po . Colorno borders directly on the province of Cremona .
history
Colorno is first mentioned in a document in 953. Since the time of Frederick II the community was part of the Guelfs . Eventually the fief went to the Terzi and later to the Duke of Milan and from there to the Sanseverino family . Among these, the fiefdom was considerably enlarged. In today's Ducal Palace of the Farnese has the ALMA , the Scuola Internazionale di Cucina Italiana, its headquarters.
traffic
The former Strada Statale 343 Asolana runs through the municipality from Parma to Asola , which is now downgraded to Strada provinciale . There is a train station on the non-electrified Parma – Brescia railway line.
Attractions
The ducal palace was built by Azzo da Correggio (1303-1362) and rebuilt by Ennemond Alexandre Petitot (1727-1801).
