Berceto is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2002 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Parma in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 39 kilometers southwest of Parma .

history

The Via Francigena runs through the municipality . Saint Moderamnus was abbot in Berceto monastery from 718 to 731. The Lombard king Liutprand founded the monastery in 718. Burkard was then the second abbot in Berceto from 731 to 737. Burkard's relics are still in the Berceto cathedral today.

In January 2012, the epicenter of an earthquake was in the municipality .

In the district of Ghiare there is a train station on the railway line from Parma to La Spezia . The A15 autostrada and Strada Statale 62 della Cisa from Sarzana to Verona run through the municipality .

Personalities

The writer Luigi Malerba (1927–2008) was born here. The game designer Paolo Mori organizes an annual two-three-day game designer meeting here.
