The A15 motorway , also known as Autocamionale della Cisa , is an Italian motorway that runs from Parma to La Spezia . It is part of the E 33 and represents an important connection between the Po Valley and the Tyrrhenian coast . The motorway is currently 108 km long and tolls as far as Santo Stefano di Magra .

Although the A15 is shown in official publications as European route 33, there is local signage as European route 31 .

General

The first plans to build this motorway come from the 1950s with the aim of building an alternative route to the A7 , which connects the Po Valley with the Tyrrhenian coast . The A15 was finally opened on May 24, 1975. The entire stretch of the motorway is served by the SALT p. A. operated.

The A15 at the level of Montelungo

The A15 branches off the A1 in a south-easterly direction at Parma and initially runs west of the city. As far as Borgotaro it runs parallel to the Taro River , which is crossed several times. A notable building here is the almost 1000 m long "Taro 1" bridge near Fornovo di Taro . Here the motorway also reaches the northern reaches of the Meeralpen and reaches the apex, the Passo della Cisa , approx. 20 km further south at Tugo at almost 800 m above sea level . As a result of the relief mentioned above, there are numerous curves north of the main ridge, some of which have narrow radii , so that the maximum speed limit is reduced to 60 km / h there. For a long time the A15 was used for test purposes for trucks (ital .: camion ), which explains the alternative name Autocamionale della Cisa .

At the Cisa pass the heart of the Autostrada della Cisa, the 2040 m long "Valico Tunnel", is passed. At the same time there is also the regional border between Emilia - Romagna (Province of Parma) and Tuscany (Province of Carrara - Massa). In the further course to Pontremoli the motorway leads downhill through several longer tunnels and over numerous bridges . From Pontremoli to Santo Stefano M. the A15 runs in the Magratal , in S. Stefano it finally reaches the A12 . Here the motorway leaves Tuscany and you reach Liguria and the province of La Spezia , the end point of the A15. In total, the A15 runs through 17 twin-tube tunnels and over 97 viaducts.

future plans

In the meantime, the expansion of the motorway in a northerly direction is planned; it will lead directly to the A22 (Brenner motorway) at Nogarole Rocca and thus create a shorter connection between the Brenner and the Ligurian Sea ( Riviera ). 17.5 km will run in Emilia-Romagna, 52 km in Lombardy and 15.5 km in the Veneto region .

Work on the first construction lot towards the north began in autumn 2016. This includes the relocation of the previous connection to the A1 to the west. A new motorway junction is being built here, the previous old carriageway between Parma Ovest and the A1 will be rebuilt over approx. 2 km.

To the north, a bridge is being built south of Viarolo over the Taro, then it goes north to the new connection "S.Quirico", which also marks the end of the first construction lot.

From the junction with the A12 (km 100.7) in the direction of La Spezia, the A15 was the responsibility of SALT SpA from the start. In the direction of La Spezia at km 101.9, the A15 branches off via a cloverleaf triangle: On one side it goes (as a junction) 1.2 km [9] in the direction of Santo Stefano di Magra , on the other side it goes (as A15) to La Spezia .

The section from La Spezia to Santo Stefano di Magra is toll-free.

The La Spezia - Lerici feeder road has signs for the beginning and the end of the motorway, despite a single lane with only two lanes, and is signposted in green. This feeder is also classified as R19 according to the internal numbering and is 3.7 km long. The section is managed by SALT SpA as indicated on the signs for the start of the motorway.
