The Raccordo autostradale 3 ( Italian for 'motorway feeder 3') is a motorway feeder in the center of Italy , which connects Siena with the A1 and thus with the Italian motorway network. It is located in the Italian region of Tuscany and was opened in 1964.

The decreto legislativo 29 ottobre 1999, n. 461 did not include the RA 3 in the Italian motorway network, but classified it as a road of national interest . In 2013 all signs were replaced with green ones, like on Italian motorways.

The RA 3 starts south of Florence , where it branches off from the A1 at the Firenze - Impruneta junction (formerly Firenze - Certosa ). Since May 2017 it has been extended to the north via the by pass del Galluzzo , to the south it continues in the direction of the Chianti through two tunnels and, due to the hilly terrain, has a high number of curves in the further course, with a maximum speed of 90 km / h. In particularly dangerous places, the speed is limited to 60 km / h. There are also several bridges throughout the course.

Passing the towns of Greve in Chianti , San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Colle di Val d'Elsa , he reaches Siena , the capital of the province of the same name . Here the RA 3 joins the Siena western bypass at the Siena - Nord junction without any structural changes . The mileage starts at this junction.

Development status and administration

The motorway feeder is developed as a motorway-like road with two separate lanes, each with two lanes. However , it has no hard shoulder , there are alternative places. The entire route has two rest stops in each direction . One is near the Poggibonsi junction , the other at Tavarnelle .

It is managed by ANAS . So far, the RA 3, like all routes managed by ANAS, is toll-free.
