The Tangenziale Est Esterna di Milano ( TEM ; German: Äußere Osttangente von Milan ) is a motorway in northern Italy , which is located entirely in the Lombardy region . In addition to Milan's existing Osttangente , the new motorway should help to relieve the chronically congested roads in the greater Milan area and to better distribute traffic.

    The project

Currently, the forms A51 the Eastern ring road (east ring road), which from the A4 to the north A1 to the south leads. Due to the chronic congestion of the roads in the Milan area, which have to accommodate up to 160,000 vehicles per day, especially in the east of the city, the construction of another bypass became increasingly important.

The TEM is part of a transport project in Lombardy, which also includes BreBeMi , which was inaugurated in 2014 and provides a direct connection between Milan and Brescia and the Raccordo Autostradale Ospitaletto-Montichiari near Brescia.

Tangenziali Esterne di Milano SpA was founded in 2002 with the task of drawing up plans for a new eastern bypass. The planning was completed in 2010, and the final project was presented in February 2011.

The total cost is 1.7 billion euros .

Construction began in 2012 and should be completed in 2015, depending on how far the BreBeMi and Raccordo Autostradale are.

The forecast sales volume for the TEM is 70,000 vehicles.

    Route

In the town of Agrate Brianza in the northeast of Milan, the TEM branches off the A4 motorway and runs about 15 km east of the old Tangenziale in a southbound direction past Milan. It passes the villages of Gessate , Melzo , Paullo and will meet the A1 in the southeast of the city. After the A1, the route ends after a few kilometers at Cerro al Lambro .

The route runs through a total of two provinces and one metropolitan city, from north to south: the province of Monza and Brianza , the metropolitan city of Milan and the province of Lodi .

The motorway has a total of 6 junctions and crosses the three motorways A1, A4 and A35.

The TEM is carried out over a total of 32 km as follows:

    • in trenches: 7.3 km
    • on bridges: 1.9 km
    • in tunnels: 1.2 km

    administration

The TEM is planned, built and managed by Tangenziale esterna SpA, which has held the concession for 50 years.
