  • The A35 or BreBeMi (short for: Brescia-Bergamo-Milano) is a motorway in northern Italy , which is located entirely in the Lombardy region . The new motorway connects the cities of Milan and Brescia . It was opened to traffic on July 23, 2014. This represented the largest opening of a motorway section in Italy since 1980.

    The project

    Until now, the economic center of Milan was only connected to the city of Brescia by the A4 motorway . There is an average traffic volume of 100,000 vehicles per day, with peaks of up to 140,000. Due to this, the A4 will be expanded to six lanes in this area.

    But in order to manage the traffic flow in Lombardy even better, planning began on the new A35 motorway, at that time still under the project name BreBeMi. The motorway is intended to connect the cities of Brescia and Milan directly, without going through the city of Bergamo .

    The project was approved at the end of 2009 and the environmental impact assessments were completed. Construction began on July 22nd, 2009. Completion was initially planned for 2013. Half of the route will be completed in mid-2012; completion was originally planned for April 2014, but was then postponed to July 2014. The opening of the new A35 took place on July 23, 2014.

    The opening ceremony took place on July 23rd in the municipality of Fara Olivana con Sola at the Romano di Lombardia motorway exit . Among the guests were the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and the President of the Lombardy Region Roberto Maroni . The opening for all traffic took place at 4:00 p.m.

    The entire project is financed by a public-private partnership , or PPP for short. The costs amount to 1,420 million euros and are to be covered by the revenue from the toll .

    The history

    The A35 branches off the A4 at Brescia and crosses the Raccordo Autostradale Ospitaletto-Montichiari , the A21 dir. In this section the route is toll-free.

    From the cross with the Raccordo, the route is a motorway, after another 6 kilometers you will find the Chiari tollbooth .

    On the 42 km long main section, the A35 has a total of 6 junctions, 3 bridges (over the Oglio , Serio and Adda rivers ) and a tunnel .

    In the municipality of Melzo the BreBeMi crosses the Tangenziale Est Esterna di Milano .

    Technical specifications

    The BreBeMi is carried out as follows over the 62.1 km:

    • Elevated: 38.9 km
    • In trenches: 19.2 km
    • on bridges: 3.7 km
    • in tunnels: 1.3 km

    The toll booths on the exits are operated fully electronically;
