  • The Autostrada A33 ( Italian for 'Motorway A33') is an Italian motorway in the north-west of the country that will lead from Asti to Cuneo when it is completed. It is currently open to traffic for a total of 54.66 km, after its complete completion it will be 90.14 km long. The A33 consists of two sections that are not connected to each other. The motorway is subject to toll and lies entirely in the Italian region of Piedmont . The motorway is managed by the Italian motorway company Autostrada Asti-Cuneo .

Outline map of the Italian A33 motorway

After its complete completion, the A33 will lead from Asti to Cuneo. However, the A33 consists of two completely separate sections.

    • The northern section is 58.20 km long and leads from Asti via Alba to the A6 . 42.35 km are currently in operation here.
    • The southern section branches off the A6 at Carrù and leads to Cuneo . It is 31.94 km long, of which 12.31 km are in operation.

The A6 is an approx. 40 km long connection between the northern part of the A33 and the southern part.

The new motorway will have bridges with a length of 9.1 km and tunnels with a total length of 10 km. A total of 11 connection points are planned.

    1st section: Asti - A6

The SS 231 di Santa Vittoria runs between Asti and Cuneo almost identical to the A33.

The SS 231 has been expanded to four lanes over a length of 6.5 km between Asti Est and Rocca Schiavino, the expansion to the A33 and connection to the A21 is currently in the planning phase. The 2.23 km between Rocca Schiavino and Isola d'Asti (current end of the A33) is currently under construction.

At Rocca Schiavino a motorway slip road (ital. Diramazione) will form the western bypass Astis and connect the A33 with the A21.

The section between Isola d'Asti and Castagnito (length: 14.7 km) has already been opened. It was opened to traffic on April 16, 2007. Here the motorway runs along the Tanaro River in a south-westerly direction and has 4 junctions .

The motorway between Castagnito and Cherasco is currently interrupted. In this section the SS 231 forms the four-lane Tangenziale of Alba. This section will be integrated into the A33. The section was divided into two construction lots ,

    • 2.5 Guarene - Roddi with a length of 6.15 km
    • 2.6 Roddi-Cherasco with a length of 8.88 km

both of which are still being planned.

The last section between Cherasco and the connection with the A6 has already been completed. It opened on June 18, 2007.

    2nd section: A6 - Cuneo

The 2nd section of the A33 branches off from the A6 near Carrù . It heads west 12.3 km to S. Albano Stura and was the first to open the A33 on July 29, 2005.

The section from S. Albano via Casteletto Stura to Cuneo (lots 1.3 and 1.4) was opened on February 20, 2012 and opened to traffic. Another extension of the A33 is planned, whereby Cuneo is to be bypassed to the west and the city thus receives a tangential .
