  • Under construction
  • In planning
  • The Superstrada Pedemontana Veneta is an Italian motorway under construction in Veneto . It is owned by the Veneto region and connects the cities of Vicenza and Treviso and is intended to relieve the many small roads in the region. It does not have an alphanumeric classification like the other highways in Italy, but it is identified by the SPV logo .

    The project

The road network in the Veneto region is chronically congested. Especially between Vicenza and Treviso, there is no high-speed connection in addition to the A4 , which runs along the sea. The A4 has to handle an enormous amount of traffic every day. Since the eastward expansion of the EU, traffic along the A4 has increased by up to 120% between 2004 and 2008.

The Pedemontana creates a new, fast connection from Treviso to Vicenza and relieves the many small roads in this area. Since the route always leads at the foot of the Alps , it was called "Pedemontana" ( at the foot of the mountains ).

The entire route has four lanes , i.e. 2 lanes in each direction, with hard shoulder . However, the route is not classified as a motorway, only as a superstrada (a motorway-like road ). The 94.747 km long route will be the only toll road in Italy. Even if there is a speed limit of 110 km / h on the entire route (as on all Italian expressways), the route has the signs for the beginning and end of the autobahn , and it is also provided with green and not blue traffic signs.

The entire project is financed by a private public partnership , or PPP for short. The costs are 2,391 million euros , of which 173 million come from the public sector. Pedemontana Veneta Spa is granted the concession to operate the route for 39 years, after which it reverts to the region. Residents within a radius of 21 km around the expressway do not have to pay a toll.

The building permit was granted on September 20, 2010. The motorway is being built by a consortium that also includes the Austrian STRABAG . According to the contract, the route should be completed by Expo 2015 .

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 24, 2011 by the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia. "The Pedemontana Veneta is an infrastructure that north-east Italy urgently needs in order to remain competitive in a global economy," said Zaia at a celebration at the start of construction in the municipality of Romano di Ezzelino in the province of Vicenza.

Since the entire route runs through densely populated areas, around 50 km of the total length of 94.5 km will be built in trenches, 26.5 km raised, 7.8 km in tunnels and 5.9 km in underpasses.

    Route

To the west of the provincial capital Vicenza, the Pedemontana begins on the A4 and then continues north in an arc around Vicenza. In the north of the city it meets the A31 and turns east, where it leads past Bassano del Grappa and Montebelluna to Treviso, where it joins the A27 .
