  • Under construction
  • In planning
  • The Autostrada Catania-Siracusa (formerly NSA 339) is an Italian motorway in Sicily that leads from Catania to Augusta . The motorway is part of the European route 45 , which runs from Alta in Norway to the city of Gela in the south of Sicily.

    Name and course

    The name on the route

This motorway is the only one in Italy that has not been given a clear name (such as A1 or A33). The official name is: Autostrada Catania-Siracusa . However, this name does not appear on the traffic signs along the route. The designation aut. CT-SR (autostrada Catania- Siracusa ) is displayed here. In truth, the motorway does not end in Siracusa, but 25 km away in Augusta.

The motorway is the immediate extension of the RA 15 , which forms the city bypass of Catania. The motorway then runs south to the village of Villasmundo near Augusta. Here the motorway turns into Strada Statale 114 Orientale Sicula , a four-lane motorway-like road that leads to Siracusa on the A18 motorway .

    history

After decades of planning, the construction work did not begin until March 2005. The construction costs amounted to 723 million euros . The construction work was completed on December 9, 2009.

The motorway was opened in several sections:

    Technical specifications

The motorway has the following construction methods over its 25.2 km:

    • 12 bridges with a total length of 4.16 km
    • 5 natural tunnels with a total length of 5.8 km
    • 3 artificial tunnels with a total length of 2.7 km

The motorway has four lanes, i.e. two lanes in each direction, plus hard shoulder .
