Carlentini is an Italian commune in the Syracuse Free Community Consortium in the autonomous region of Sicily with 17,461 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Carlentini is 40 km west of Syracuse . The residents mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Augusta , Buccheri , Catania , Ferla , Francofonte , Lentini , Melilli and Sortino .

history

The community was founded in 1551. After the earthquake in 1542, the residents of the damaged city of Lentini were supposed to move here. The name of the city is a combination of the name of the then ruler of the Holy Roman Empire Charles V and the city of Lentini.
