Sortino is a city in the Free Community Consortium Syracuse in the region of Sicily in Italy with 8414 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Sortino is 32 km west of Syracuse . The residents mainly work in industry and agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Carlentini , Cassaro , Ferla , Melilli , Palazzolo Acreide , Priolo Gargallo and Solarino .

The Sortini-Fusco stop was on the narrow-gauge railway line Syracuse-Ragusa .

history

The place was badly damaged in the earthquake in 1542 and completely destroyed in the earthquake in 1693. Sortino was then rebuilt at its current location.
