  • The Autostrada A31 ( Italian for 'Motorway A31'), formerly known as Autostrada della Val d'Astico , is a motorway in the Italian region of Veneto in northeastern Italy, which is currently around 90 km long and tolls . The motorway currently runs from Piovene-Rocchette via Vicenza or the A4 to Rovigo . The section from Piovene to Vicenza was opened in 1976. Once fully completed, it will lead from Trient - Rovereto via Vicenza to Rovigo to the newly planned Autostrada Padana Inferiore . The A31 can be divided into two sections:

    • Northern part: Vicenza to Trento, completed from Piovene Rocchette to the A4
    • Southern part: A4 near Vicenza to Rovigo

    Further construction

Viaduct over the Bacchiglione near Longare .
Bridge over the Adige , near Piacenza d'Adige .

A further extension of the A31 to Trento in the north has been discussed for years, and initial plans were made as early as the 1980s.

Local administrations in Trentino and various environmental activists (e.g. WWF ), who want or wanted to prevent further construction to the south (Rovigo) and north (Trento), played a decisive role in the delay .

A building permit for further construction to the south was granted in 2005 and construction began in 2006. The Vicenza – Rovigo line was originally supposed to be completed in 2010. On September 22, 2012, the first 7 km from the A4 to Longare - Montegaldella were opened and released as the first part of the southern section, followed by the next 8 km to Albettone on June 26, 2013 -Barbarano. On June 30, 2014, the section between Albettone and Agugliaro and on December 15, 2014 the connection to Strada Statale 434 Transpolesana was opened.

The section from Noventa Vicentina to Santa Margherita d'Adige was opened on March 23, 2015. The last 7 kilometers between Noventa Vicentina and Agugliaro opened at the end of August 2015.

The extension of the A31 to the north is being planned. In July 2016 was after a long struggle by the Veneto Region and the Province decided Trento that the A31 to the region boundary as a highway, the rest to the Adige Valley as a road with a lower category ( highway ) and only the Brennero state road SS12 is performed . The first wells between Piovene Rochette and Lastebasse began in January 2017 .

At the end of January 2019, the Consiglio di Stato in Rome declared the project for the northern expansion with the connection variant Besenello at the instigation of the municipality of Besenello null and void due to errors in the content. A new configuration is therefore necessary. According to the wishes of the new government set up after the regional elections in Trentino in autumn 2018 under Governor Maurizio Fugatti of the Lega Nord , the further construction should now lead south via Posina , the Val Terragnolo , Vallarsa to Rovereto.
