The Autostrada A29 ( Italian for 'Motorway A29'), also called Autostrada del Sale , is an Italian motorway in Sicily that leads from Palermo to Mazara del Vallo in the southwest of the island. It is 114 km long and completely toll-free .

Route

The motorway connects to the A19 (Palermo - Catania ) in Palermo , while at the end in Mazara del Vallo it joins the SS 115 state road . In addition, the A29 has a junction ( Italian : Diramazione ) west of the city of Alcamo . This branch, called A29dir , leading to Trapani , which branches off from this A29dirA to Trapani-Birgi .

Trivia

The monument in memory of Giovanni Falcone, his wife and his escort in Capaci, on the spot where the massacre took place.

On May 23, 1992, the Sicilian Mafia ( Cosa Nostra ) carried out an attack on the lawyer Giovanni Falcone near the “Capaci” exit . He, his wife and three bodyguards were killed.

There is no rest stop on the entire stretch of the motorway . This is indicated on a sign shortly after the start of the motorway in Palermo. Petrol stations that can be reached quickly via an exit are signposted, however.
