Partanna is a town in Trapani consortium of municipalities outside the region Sicily in Italy with 10,324 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Partanna is located 82 km southeast of Trapani . Partanna covers an area of 82 km², which means 139 inhabitants per km². The inhabitants work mainly in agriculture, dyeing and the beverage industry.
The neighboring communities are Castelvetrano , Montevago ( AG ), Salaparuta and Santa Ninfa .
history
The origin of the community is in Greek times. In the Middle Ages, the city developed around the castle. In 1139 it became a fief of the Grifeo family.
Large parts of the city were destroyed in the 1968 earthquake. The community was rebuilt in the same place.
Attractions
Chiesa Madre
The church Trasfigurazione di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo, the Chiesa Madre of Partanna, built from 1589 to 1676, is in Via Vittorio Emanuele and is the parish church of Partanna. It was partially destroyed in the earthquake in 1968 and then restored. The church consists of three naves. Pictures from the 17th century hang here. The organ was designed by Paolo Amato.

North of the village is the sanctuary of the Madonna della Libera, built between 1975 and 1982. The church is made of reinforced concrete and has a high campanile.
The castle Castello dei Grifeo in the middle of the historical center was built in the Arab-Norman period. It was largely rebuilt in the 14th and 17th centuries. The lock is in good condition.

The place gained notoriety through the book Rita Atria, a woman against the mafia by the author Petra Reski . The biography is about the life of the girl Rita Atria , who grows up in Partanna. It depicts the mafia-like swamp of crime and corruption in the city. After Rita's father and her brother, both members of the Mafia, are killed, Rita takes a bold step and takes a bold step to testify against the Mafia in Partanna. After the attacks on the judges Giovanni Falcone on May 23 and Paolo Borsellino on July 19, 1992, Rita Atria committed suicide shortly afterwards in Rome and announced in a letter that she could no longer be protected.
