Partinico ( Sicilian Partinicu ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 31,569 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Palermo in the autonomous region of Sicily .

Location and dates

Partinico is 31 km west of Palermo . The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture, viticulture or the food industry.

The neighboring municipalities are Alcamo ( TP ), Balestrate , Borgetto , Carini , Giardinello , Monreale , Montelepre , Terrasini and Trappeto .

history

At several sites in the Plain of Partinico, numerous stone tools were found that testify to prehistoric human activities and are exhibited in the city museum ( Museo Civico ). In Roman times the place was called Parthenicum and is mentioned in the Itinerarium Antonini , which dates from the early 3rd century AD. The remains of a Roman villa have been discovered in the Sirignano district. The present city was founded in the 14th century.
