Petralia Sottana is a city of Metropolitan city of Palermo in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 2,593 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Petralia Sottana lies on a rocky promontory in the Monti Madonie above a valley of the Imera Meridionale . The distance to Palermo in the northwest is 108 km.
The inhabitants work mainly in agriculture, the food industry and traditional carpet weaving.

history
The place developed around a fort, which was built in 1096 by Roger I below the town of Petralia Soprana .

Events
In August, on the first Sunday after the Assumption of Mary, a pantomime festival Ballo Pantomima della Cordella and an ancient wedding procession are held. In September there is the feast of the Madonna dell'Alto .
