Santa Flavia is 19 km east of Palermo on the Tyrrhenian Sea . The inhabitants work in agriculture, fishing, tourism and industry.

Districts are Porticello (fishing port), Sant'Elia and Solanto. Santa Flavia is connected to the Messina – Palermo railway line .

The neighboring municipalities are Bagheria , Casteldaccia and Misilmeri .

history

The ancient city of Solunt (Latin: Soluntum, German Solunt) was located in the area of ​​today's municipality . Solunt was founded in the 4th century BC. Founded. 250 BC The Romans conquered the city. After that, Solunt lost its importance.

Today's place developed around the Norman fort of Solanto. At the end of the 17th century, the castle and the surrounding fiefs became the property of the Filangeri family of Sicily . The towns of Santa Flavia, Porticello, Sant'Elia and Casteldaccia were part of the fief at the time. The Italian unity from 1861 led u. a. to territorial reforms. In this context, the present-day municipalities of Santa Flavia and Casteldaccia were formed. In this way, Solanto, the former center of the municipality, became the smallest district of Santa Flavia.
