Location and dates

The neighboring communities are Balestrate , Partinico and Terrasini .
history
In 1480 Francesco Bologna set up a sugar factory in "Trappetum Cannamelarum". When the first fishermen settled in Trappeto two centuries later, sugar was replaced by fishing and the village grew slowly but steadily. Fishing is still the most important industry in Trappeto, alongside agriculture. The fish market is considered a tourist attraction.
In the course of the guest worker movement , around two thirds of the town's population emigrated to Germany from the 1960s , mainly to Solingen - Ohligs , where they mostly worked in the cutlery industry. Many returned after decades or commuted between the two cities, various Trappetesi still live in Solingen today.
