Mezzojuso is a city of Metropolitan city of Palermo in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 2,797 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Mezzojuso is 48 km south of Palermo . The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture, forestry or wood processing. The Catholics of the Byzantine and Latin rites belong to the Eparchy Piana degli Albanesi of the Italo-Albanian Church .

The neighboring municipalities are Campofelice di Fitalia , Cefalà Diana , Ciminna , Godrano and Villafrati .

After rail traffic to Mezzojuso was discontinued in 1954, the place can only be reached by road today.

history

The Arabs founded the village of Manzil Yusuf here, the current name is derived from it. In the middle of the 15th century Albanian refugees settled here , who had fled the Ottomans from what is now the states of Albania and Greece .
