Misilmeri is a city of Metropolitan city of Palermo in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 29,292 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Misilmeri is located 20 km southeast of Palermo . The residents mainly work in agriculture and industry.
The neighboring municipalities are Bagheria , Belmonte Mezzagno , Bolognetta , Casteldaccia , Ficarazzi , Marineo , Palermo , Santa Cristina Gela , Santa Flavia and Villabate .
After the rail traffic to Misilmeri was discontinued in 1954, the place can only be reached by road today.
history
Misilmeri originated in Arab times . In 1068 Roger von Hauteville put the Arabs to flight here. The present place was re-founded in 1540 by Francesco Del Bosco Ventimiglia , his descendants were later elevated to dukes of Misilmeri. In 1721 they were succeeded as heirs by the Bonanno, princes of Roccafiorita .
