Polizzi Generosa is a city in the metropolitan city of Palermo in the region of Sicily in Italy with 3112 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Polizzi Generosa is located in the southern foothills of the Monti Madonie on a 915 m slm high cliff. It is located 88 km southeast of Palermo and around 30 kilometers south of Cefalù .
The residents mainly work in agriculture and construction.
The neighboring communities are Caltavuturo , Castellana Sicula , Isnello , Petralia Sottana , Scillato , Sclafani Bagni , Vallelunga Pratameno ( CL ) and Villalba ( CL ).
history
Roger I had a fort built in 1076, around which the place developed. The nickname Generosa (German: lush, plentiful) was given to the place by Frederick II , as the soil was very fertile and the residents were wealthy.
