Isnello is a city of Metropolitan city of Palermo in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 1,418 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).

Isnello is 80 km east of Palermo in the Monti Madonie . The residents mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Castelbuono , Cefalù , Collesano , Gratteri , Petralia Sottana , Polizzi Generosa and Scillato .

history

Today's place was built around a fort in the 13th century. Some very old objects were found in caves in the vicinity of Isnello, which prove that the area around Isnello has been inhabited by humans since prehistoric times.

Attractions

The remains of the medieval fort still stand in the village. The church of San Nicolo di Bari, cathedral of the city, was built in the 14th century, but then changed significantly in the 15th century. Inside there are paintings by Giuseppe Salerno and stucco work by Giuseppe Li Volsi. The church of San Michele dates from the 14th century, the organ and the stucco work are from the 18th century. The Rosario Church was built in the 16th century, inside are the tombs of the Counts of Isnello.

At the entrance to the village is the statue of La Madre Madonita from 1987. It was created by the local artist Pietro Giambelluca.
