Ficarazzi is a city of Metropolitan city of Palermo in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 13,050 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Ficarazzi is 10 km east of Palermo on the SS 113 . The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture, in which citrus fruits are grown.

The neighboring municipalities are Bagheria , Misilmeri , Palermo and Villabate .

history

Ficarazzi was founded in 1458. The place was founded by the viceroy Pietro Speciale. A further expansion of the place goes back to the Marchese Luigi Giardina de Guevara, who took over the territory from the Theatinians in 1733 .

Attractions

  • Castle from the 15th century. The fort was converted into a villa in the 18th century.
  • 15th century aqueduct built to irrigate sugar cane plantations.
