The municipality of Pedemonte within the province of Vicenza

Pedemonte ( German outdated: Astachtal ) is a north-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 728 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Vicenza in Veneto . The municipality is located about 44 kilometers north-northwest of Vicenza on the Astico and borders directly on the Trentino .

Until after the First World War, Pedemonte belonged to Tyrol and later to Trentino , and together with the neighboring municipality of Casotto, it was separated from Trentino in 1929 and incorporated into the province of Vicenza . Casotto was first incorporated into Valdastico in 1940 and only joined Pedemonte in 1980. In a referendum in 2008, a narrow majority declared that they wanted to return to the now autonomous province of Trento. A corresponding bill has been in Rome since 2009.
