Gallio ( Cimbrian Ghel , German Gelle ) is a north-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2380 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Vicenza in Veneto . The municipality is located about 40 kilometers north of Vicenza and, as a Cimbrian-language island, is one of the seven municipalities .

history

In the Middle Ages, the Ezzelini ruled the community. During the First World War , the battle between the three mountains ( Col del Rosso , Col d'Ecchele and Monte Valbella ) took place in January 1918 .
