Lucio Topatigh (born October 19, 1965 in Gallio ) is a former Italian ice hockey player . He is considered to be one of the best and most successful Italian ice hockey players of all time and is both the record national player for Italy with 243 international matches for the Azzurri and the most successful scorer with 131 points. In 2015 he was honored with the induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame .

Career

Lucio Topatigh began his career as an ice hockey player with Asiago Hockey , for whose professional team he was active from 1984 to 1986 in Serie A1 , the top Italian division. The winger then played for five years for their league rivals HC Bozen , with whom he won Italian championships in 1988 and 1990 . From 1991 to 1993 he played again for Asiago, before he played for HC Devils Milano from 1993 to 1995 , with which he also won the Italian championship title in 1994. The 1995/96 season started again in Asiago, but after only ten games he switched to HC Bozen, with whom he was again champion at the end of the season. He was able to repeat this success with his team in 1997 and 1998.

From 1999 until his retirement in 2008 at the age of 42, Topatigh appeared again for Asiago Hockey and won his seventh and final championship title with the team in the 2000/01 season . For the club itself it was the first championship title in club history. In 2001 and 2002, the long-time national player and four-time Olympic participant also won the Coppa Italia with Asiago and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2003 .

International

For Italy , Topatigh took part in the B World Championships in 1986 , 1987 , 1989 and 1990 and the A World Championships in 1992 , 1993 , 1994 , 1995 , 1996 , 1997 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 and 2002 . He was also in his country's squad at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , 1994 in Lillehammer , 1998 in Nagano and 2006 in Turin .
