The 59th Ice Hockey World Championships in 1995 took place in the Swedish cities of Stockholm and Gävle (A group) as well as in Slovakia , Bulgaria and South Africa . A total of 39 teams took part in these world championships, which was a new record. There was no qualification this year.
The group A tournament ended with the Finnish national team winning the first title . It was the first time since 1954 that a new team was able to enter the list of winners. In the final, the Finnish national team defeated their arch-rivals, hosts Sweden , 4-1.
mode
This year there were again changes in the C group area. The boycott measures against Yugoslavia were lifted and the team was allowed to play the World Cup again. As a former C-group team, the team was now allowed to compete in the C1 group again. The C1 group therefore played with nine teams this year. In addition, the C2 group was increased from eight to ten teams in order to avoid further qualifying matches. There was also a small change again in the A group, where the relegated team this year should not be determined in a game of the two group sixths, as in the previous year , but in two comparisons between the two opponents.
A world championship
The group A tournament was held in Stockholm and Gävle, Sweden.
