The 9th Ice Hockey World Championship and the 20th European Ice Hockey Championship took place from January 19 to 27, 1935 in Davos , Switzerland . The competition mode has been changed compared to last year's World Cup . 15 teams took part in this World Cup, which was a new record. The 15 teams initially played in four preliminary round groups (three groups of four, one group of three teams). The first two of each group reached the intermediate round. In contrast to last year, Canada had to compete in the preliminary round this time and was not set for the intermediate round; the USA did not take part in this World Cup. The third and fourth placed in the preliminary round groups played a placement round for 9th place. In the second round there were again two groups with four teams each. The first two of each group reached the final round with their direct comparisons, the remaining teams played for places 5-8.

In the absence of the USA , the Canadians could not lose their eighth world title. The Switzerland as hosts took advantage of the opportunity and won the first runner-up world championship and with it their second European title.
