The 17th European Ice Hockey Championship was the last pure European championship tournament for men. The reason that a pure European Championship tournament was held again after 1929 was that the Olympic ice hockey tournament or the ice hockey World Cup took place overseas in Lake Placid ( USA ) that year . In view of the high crossing costs and the current global economic crisis , only two European teams ( Germany and Poland ) took part in the Olympic tournament. It was therefore decided after the Olympic tournament in March to hold an additional European Championship tournament. Hosted the last European Championship Germany . The game was played from March 14th to 20th, 1932 in Berlin . The attendance record of 1926 was set with nine participants . Participants in addition to hosts Germany to Switzerland , Austria , the Czechoslovakia , France , Sweden , the UK , Romania and Latvia . In addition, Poland, Italy and Hungary had also shown interest, but not reported.

The European Championship was originally supposed to take place from March 6th to 13th in Prague , Czechoslovakia . However, the Czechoslovak Association lacked the financial means to complete the half-finished stadium in Prague. The Czechoslovak association president gave back the alignment in mid-January, but the majority in the association then stated that the president had acted unauthorized and prematurely. Ultimately, however, Czechoslovakia had to hand over alignment to Germany.

As in 1926 and 1929 , the game was initially played in three preliminary round groups with three teams each. The group winners should qualify directly for the final round, while the group runners-up should play out the fourth final round participant in a hope round. But the current game results led to a mode change. Since all three teams in Group A were tied on points and goals, it was decided - after a waiver of the teams from Great Britain and France who actually qualified in second place - to allow all teams in this group to take their direct preliminary round results with them for the final round. The final round was therefore played with five teams, the hope round was omitted. The four teams that did not qualify for the final round also played a placement round for places 6–9, taking their direct preliminary round comparisons with them.

Sweden won its fourth European title at this tournament, ahead of Austria and Switzerland . The Czechoslovakia disappointed and had to 5th place still behind Germany to make do.
