The 9th European Ice Hockey Championship took place in Italy for the first time . The tournament was played in Milan from March 14th to 17th, 1924 . It was one of two independent European championships that were not held as part of the World Championship or Olympic tournament that took place in the same year. This was to be done only once, in 1932 . With six participating teams, there was again a new record participation. Participants were defending champions Sweden as well as the teams from Switzerland , France , Belgium , Spain and the host country Italy . It was a first for the Italians and Spaniards. In its second participation overall, France celebrated its first European championship.
