Birger Holmqvist

Birger Ivar "Bigge" Holmqvist (born December 28, 1900 in Stockholm ; † April 9, 1989 ibid) was a Swedish ice hockey and bandy player .

Career

At club level, Birger Holmqvist first played in the 1920/21 season for Kronobergs IK. The attacker played for IK Göta in the Swedish championship from 1922 to 1928 and won the national championship title with his team in 1922, 1923, 1924, 1927 and 1928. At the same time as playing with IK Göta, the Swede also played regularly for the Berlin ice skating club in Germany and won several German championship titles with it .

International

For Sweden , Holmqvist took part in the European Championships in 1922 , 1923 and 1924 . In 1922 and 1924 he and his team won the silver and in 1923 even the gold medal. In addition, he was in his country's squad at the Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924 and in St. Moritz in 1928 . At the 1928 Winter Games, he and his team won the silver medal. As the best European team at the Winter Olympics, he and his team won the European championship.
