The Olympic ice hockey tournament of the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz ( Switzerland ) was also the third IIHF - Ice Hockey World Championship and the 13th European Ice Hockey Championship . The tournament took place from February 11th to 19th, 1928. Eleven teams took part, but the USA was missing.

The tournament started with a preliminary round in three groups. The three group winners reached the final round and played the medals with the seeded Canadians. Canada clinched its third Olympic gold medal in ice hockey and its third consecutive world title.
