The men's ice hockey world championship 2023 is the 86th edition of the competition organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The tournament of the top Division place from 5 to 21 May 2023 in the Russian St. Petersburg instead.

The tournament was awarded at the annual congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation during the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia . In advance, the Russian, Swedish and Czech associations had agreed on the division of the World Cup tournaments from 2023 to 2025. Russia last hosted a World Cup in 2016 . The main venue will be a newly built arena, which will be the largest ice hockey stadium in the world with a capacity of 22,500 spectators.

In addition to the tournament of the top division, tournaments of divisions I to IV are expected to be held. The two Division I tournaments are scheduled for April 24-30, 2023.
