There were few changes this year compared to last year . The C1 group played again with the nominal strength of eight teams (9 in the previous year) and was again called the C group. The C2 group was renamed again to the D group and reduced from ten to eight teams. This reduction made it necessary in the run-up to the D-WM qualifying matches.

D world championship

The D group of the World Championship was held from March 25 to 31, 1996 in Kaunas and Elektrėnai , Lithuania.

Initially, the Israeli team could only qualify for the D-WM by converting the defeats in the qualifying tournament against opponents Greece into 5-0 victories on the green table due to the use of unauthorized players on the Greek side. But Israel suffered the same fate at the D-WM. It lost the preliminary round matches against Bulgaria and Belgium at the green table with 0: 5, because with the Russia-Israelis Ariel Ben-Youri and Alex Vital, two players who were not eligible to play were used.
